Rangers fans will now have a different visual when they visit Ibrox for the next home game in the Scottish Premiership.

Derek McInnes’ side will next take on St Mirren in the league on Saturday, but that game is away from home.

The next fixture at Ibrox is on the other side of the international break, on 24 November against Aberdeen.

‘Welcome to Ibrox’ banner is being taken down outside the Rangers stadium

X user RFC_Michael shared an image online of the ‘Welcome to Ibrox’ banner being taken down outside the stadium. The banner was above the club shop and will no longer be there for fans to see before and after games.

The banner was installed around 2020 as part of an earlier refresh of the retail area, and had become a familiar sight for fans arriving at the ground. However, it was widely regarded as looking tired and weather-worn.

This action forms part of a series of smaller improvement projects around the stadium that the Gers have been progressing in recent months, including cladding upgrades, seating replacements and external cleaning works.

Fans surely will be watching closely to see what design replaces the old banner and whether it forms part of a broader spruce-up of the area in front of the Bill Struth Main Stand.

What’s the latest on Ibrox’s development?

Rangers and the 49ers Enterprises have appointed Leeds-based engineering firm Dudleys Consulting to carry out an independent structural assessment of Ibrox and the club’s Auchenhowie training ground as renovation plans gather pace. The firm, previously involved in work at Elland Road, surveyed the roofs, concealed steelwork, large-span trusses, circulation routes and surrounding infrastructure to evaluate the stadium’s current condition and long-term viability.

A range of improvement works are under way across Ibrox and the surrounding areas, including cleaning of the commemorative bricks on the external concourses and tidying of the east and west gates with weed removal and repointing. Surveys are also being carried out to cost the potential repainting of the Main Stand roof structure, while small-scale resurfacing is being assessed and larger sections of seating in the Club Deck and Enclosures are due to be replaced over the coming weeks.
