La Vuelta Femenina has received a €250,000 funding boost from the Spanish government, with the race included in a wider €18.2 million investment package approved to support major sporting events, professional competitions and development programmes across Spain.
The funding was announced on Tuesday, 27 October, by Spain's Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sport, Milagros Tolón, following a meeting of the Council of Ministers. The package includes support for women's professional sport, sporting infrastructure and high-performance facilities, with the organisers of Spain's leading women's cycling race among the beneficiaries.
The €250,000 allocation will go to Unipublic, the organiser of La Vuelta Femenina, to help cover costs directly associated with the planning and staging of the 2026 edition.
The grant represents a continuation of support from Spain's Higher Sports Council (CSD) for the women's race, which has established itself as one of the most prominent events on the international women's cycling calendar.
The funding forms part of two government-approved packages totalling €18.2 million, covering a range of sporting initiatives considered to be of public interest.
Women's professional sport features prominently in the investment plans, with €5 million allocated to Liga F, Spain's top-flight women's football competition, and a further €1 million dedicated to supporting the professionalisation of women's basketball.
The Spanish Basketball Federation will also receive €5 million for its under-22 competition, while the High Performance Centre in Sant Cugat has been allocated €3.5 million for its operation and improvements to its facilities.
Other beneficiaries include the Gandía Arena development project and sports programmes at the National Hospital for Paraplegics in Toledo.
For La Vuelta Femenina, the €250,000 contribution maintains the Spanish government's financial involvement in the organisation of the race, with the grant specifically intended to support the costs of delivering its 2026 edition.
