Despite the circuit’s legendary status, Quartararo’s history at Phillip Island has been modest, with his best MotoGP finish being ninth and only one other top-10 finish across his career. However, the Yamaha Factory Racing rider recognizes the track’s distinct character, highlighted by its high-speed corners and notoriously unpredictable weather conditions that differentiate it from most venues on the calendar.
“I enjoyed the week off and used the time to recharge before these final races of the season,” Quartararo explained. “Phillip Island is a very unique circuit compared to most tracks we visit. It’s also the last time we’ll race here, so it will be special to experience the atmosphere one more time. For sure, I will give it my 100 per cent as always.”
Quartararo’s Monster Energy Yamaha teammate, Alex Rins, approaches the weekend with an even stronger connection to Phillip Island. The Spaniard, who secured a memorable victory at the circuit in 2022 with Suzuki, emphasized the emotional weight of this final chapter at the Australian venue.
“I’m really happy to be back at Phillip Island,” Rins said. “It’s a track that I’ve always enjoyed, and I have many good memories here from different stages of my career. The layout is fantastic. Riding here this weekend, knowing that this is our final MotoGP weekend at Phillip Island, makes this round even more significant, so I want to enjoy every lap while also focusing on doing a good job for the team.”
With the break providing ample time for preparation, Rins is eager to dive into the action. “We’ve had time to prepare during the break, and now I’m looking forward to getting started,” he added.
As the MotoGP paddock gears up to close a historic chapter at Phillip Island, both Quartararo and Rins embody the mix of respect and determination that this unique event demands. Their perspectives underscore the significance of the Australian Grand Prix not only as a race but as a farewell to one of the sport’s most revered circuits.
