Asian Para Games 2026: Sheetal Devi Shines With 2 Gold Medals in Archery Events

On Thursday (22 October), Sheetal Devi won two gold medals in the archery events at the Asian Para Games 2026, as she claimed three medals in the ongoing Asian Para Games, including one individual gold medal.

In the para compound mixed team event, Sheetal Devi teamed up with Toman Kumar to claim the gold medal after beating the Indonesian duo Teodora Audi Ayudia Ferelly and Ken Swagumilang by 151-148.

Indian partners dominated the first game (38-37), extended their margin in the second game (39-36), and, despite losing the third game (36- 37) by a close margin, their tied fourth game (38-38) confirmed India’s first gold medal in archery at the Asian Para Games 2026.

Later, Sheetal Devi won the individual para compound women's event after beating Nur Syahidah Alim from Singapore in the final (142-139). After the first game ended in a tie (29-29), the Singaporean archer took a strong lead in the second game (26-30). However, Sheetal Devi made a strong comeback by winning all the next three games, while scoring “perfect X” in all three arrows of the third game. She led the last three games by 30-27, 30-27, and 27-26.

Earlier, last Tuesday (20 October), in the elimination round ⅛, Sheetal set a new world record by scoring 149 to defeat Hong Kong para archer Chan Yuen Wah.

Just like the mixed team event, Sheetal Devi also defended her Asian Para Games title in the individual event. On Wednesday (21 October), she claimed a silver with Payal Nag in the para compound women's doubles event.

Who is Sheetal Devi?

Sheetal Devi was born in 2007 with phocomelia, which is a rare medical condition resulting in the absence of arms.

In the Asian Para Games 2022, Sheetal Devi won three medals, just repeating in the 2026 edition. In that 2022 edition, she won one gold each in the women’s individual and mixed team events, while securing a silver in the women’s doubles event. In the Paralympics 2024 in Paris, Sheetal won a bronze medal in the mixed team event.

In 2025, Sheetal won an individual gold at the World Para Archery Championships. In 2026, she recorded four gold medals at the World Para Series, including one individual gold medal.

Currently, Sheetal holds three world records, including setting the individual 15-arrow match record (149) that she set at the Asian Para Games 2026.

In 2023, Sheetal was honoured with the Arjuna Award.
