Plymouth Argyle head coach said that Bim Pepple was 'unplayable' as the Pilgrims top scorer was back to his best in the 3-2 win over Cambridge United.
Canadian Pepple scored the winner from the penalty spot as Argyle got back to winning ways after two successive defeats to take his tally to eight goals this season - including seven in his last ten games.
The 23-year-old impressed in leading the line and responded perfectly to the calls made by Cleverley for the striker to 'set the tone' for the Greens.
"He needs to get back to looking more hungry," Cleverley said after the 3-0 defeat to Stevenage on Tuesday. "We're here to support Bim and make him better, and I've not seen the same hunger in his eyes.
"Whether he's protecting something, I don't know, but as the talisman and the leading goalscorer you can really set the tone for the rest of the team. He needs to embrace that responsibility."

Pepple definitely did that, and Cleverley post the win at the Abbey admitted that he perhaps used the wrong words to describe what he wanted to see from his main man. But that he was delighted with his performance and showed that he is back to his best.
"I think maybe I used the wrong choice of words in the week, and his mentality, I wasn't questioning it," Cleverley said. "It was more, I felt he was protecting himself, which is understandable. He was coming back from a hamstring injury which for an explosive player is a precarious position.
"He was playing with a little bit with the handbrake on, but it's understandable. Maybe I should have looked at it the other way and patted him on the back for for putting himself out there. When he's maybe 100 per cent he showed what he is today, unplayable at times, occupying numerous defenders."
Cleverley also revealed that he expects to have two players back in the squad in time for the visit of Reading to Home Park in League One on Saturday. Malachi Boateng after knee ligament damage in the 1-1 league draw away to Wycombe Wanderers in August will be available, assuming he comes through training this week, while Danish defender Mathias Ross after an infected foot is also set to return.
Michael Baidoo, who hasn't featured at all this season after a hamstring injury in pre-season is probably not quite ready but should be back for the visit of Alvechurch in the FA Cup the following week.
"Malachii will certainly be abig part of the thoughts if he comes through this week's training," Cleverley said. "He'll be in the squad. So that will be a huge boost for all of us, just his presence, and then the FA Cup game comes at a great time for him, same with Michael for the FA Cup."
