Harry Kane has confirmed that Vincent Kompany is still recovering in hospital from his collapse, with English coach Aaron Danks taking the helm at Bayern Munich.
Danks, 43, is set to lead the team in their DFB Cup game against Magdeburg on Wednesday night and the Bundesliga clash with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
He presided over Bayern's 3-1 away win at Freiburg at the weekend in a fine start to life as the stand-in boss.
Kompany collapsed last week while watching a training session and was rushed to hospital, leaving those who saw the distressing incident deeply affected.
Fortunately, the 40-year-old is on the mend, as confirmed by Harry Kane, who updated Daily Mail Sport on Kompany's condition after winning the Ballon d'Or on Monday night.
Kane said: 'He actually phoned me, phoned me bright and early at 9am (Monday). I was just out of bed thankfully, so I was able to answer it. But no, he just wanted to wish me all the best, good luck.
'I asked him how he was doing, he said he feels good, he feels like he's on the mend. I know he's the type of character who just wants to be back with the team already.
'He wants to be out on the training field with us, on the bench with us. But it's important that he rests, you know? He's been going through a bit of a tough time with his health recently, and we can hopefully cover it, the staff can cover it.
'Obviously, he's not there, but, you know, it will be massive for me to go back to Munich and see him, all the staff, all my team-mates. I've spoken about how much this [award] is theirs as well as it is mine. So just to celebrate them a little bit will be special.'
Danks worked as Kompany's assistant at Anderlecht before deputising for Dean Smith and Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa and Michael Carrick at Middlesbrough.
He then reunited with Kompany at Bayern and is shouldering the responsibility at one of the world's biggest clubs until the manager is fit to return, which could still be weeks.
Kompany is recovering from a viral infection which caused problems with old scar tissue in his hip, leaving him in pain and with difficulties climbing stairs.
He collapsed at the club's training ground last Friday but the club confirmed he is in a stable condition and Danks gave another update on Tuesday.
He said: 'Vincent is in good spirits. It looks like every day he is getting better. Let him rest, let him take his time.'
It remains unclear how long Kompany will remain away from the touchline but according to BILD, several figures at Bayern had noted the 'workaholic' Belgian's lack of work-life balance, claiming he was getting too little sleep, eating irregularly, barely exercising, drinking excessive amounts of coffee, and taking on too much work.
At the weekend, Danks said: 'It's really not easy to get Vincent to rest. That's a challenge – you know him as a person! He's a true leader and works hard. But he has a virus, and it's important that he rests.'
Kane, meanwhile, is returning to Bayern training less than 24 hours after his Ballon d'Or triumph and afterparty. He was seen living it up at the exclusive Soho nightclub Cirque le Soir on Monday night but abstained from serious drinking.
It remains to be seen whether he'll play a part on Wednesday in the cup and could well be rested for the bigger game against rivals Dortmund at the weekend.
Bayern are top of Germany's Bundesliga after four wins and two draws in their opening six matches. They lie 14th in the Champions League's league phase after a win and two draws.
