Everton sure have some exciting young talents on the books at the moment, and the club reportedly have eyes on Lucas Herrington.
There has been a conscious effort over the past couple of years to get players into the club who are young but have really exciting potential.
The additions of the likes of Tyler Dibling, Merlin Rohl and Tyrique George have all signalled a shift in the strategy, and this season we have seen David Moyes turning to them a little bit more. He has also leaned on Harrison Armstrong heavily so far, which has been refreshing to see.
But it looks as though Everton now have another exciting young player in their crosshairs in Lucas Herrington – and here are some things to know about the coveted Hull City youngster.

What are your thoughts on a potential move for Marcus Rashford? 👀 Everton and Man United are said to be in talks over January move…
Herrington was born in Brisbane, Australia on 5 September 2007, making him 19 years old. He attended the Anglican Church Grammar School and is of Finnish, German and Zimbabwean descent. He could have represented any of these countries, but chose to play for his country of birth and has eight caps so far.
He came through the academies of Taringa Rovers, Toowong FC and Brisbane City FC, before then joining Brisbane Roar in 2019.
In September 2024, the centre-back signed a scholarship contract with the club, and his debut came just a few months later in a 2-2 draw against Western Sydney Wanderers. He then scored his first goal for the club in January, and that season he went on to make 17 appearances.
Herrington then moved on from Roar, joining MLS side Colorado Rapids. He was sold for a club-record fee of about A$560,000.

He would stay with them for just one season, joining Hull City in the summer of 2026, again for a club-record fee. His sale fee – reported by some to be about £17 million – was also said to be a record for an MLS defender. Rapids retained a percentage of Herrington’s future sell-on rights. So that’s two moves that have already seen him make history.
The most expensive Australian footballer of all-time has already made a good impression with the Tigers, and has played in seven of their nine Premier League games so far.
Former Hull player Richard Garcia, who coached the youngster at Australia U20 level, has said of Herrington (via wearehullcity.co.uk): “He is consistent wherever he plays. He doesn’t change the way he is as a person or as a player, either when he’s playing in the A-League or when he’s playing for the national team. The same guy I saw in the World Cup and play for Hull City is the same guy I had a year ago in the Under-18, so I think that’s a real positive thing.
“He’s consistent in his performances, which is something that is hard for young players to do right. That’s what probably sets him apart.”
TEAMtalk are reporting that interest is already mounting in Herrington, with a number of clubs joining Everton in the hunt, including:
Barcelona in particular are now said to be stepping up their pursuit of the player. Hull are not suggested to be open to selling Herrington, since they only just signed him. But his rapid progress means offers could come in and Hull’s resolve could be tested.
Everton will likely be needing new centre-backs next year, with James Tarkowski and Michael Keane both 33 now. Neither are options for the long term.
The Toffees struck gold with one previous Australian signing in Tim Cahill, and also landed Lucas Neill, so there’s a history there and perhaps it’s not out of the question that Herrington could pitch up at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
