Did anyone else miss fantasy basketball and the NBA? We sure did. We’re back with another season of High Score fantasy hoops on Yahoo, the second season after the inception of the game. Last season, we’d recap the perfect lineup from the week, the top-six scorers (occasionally with some ties) from the week in fantasy basketball. This year is no different. Let’s dive in.
Luka Dončić: In the least shocking development of Week 1, Dončić was able to finish things off by posting the highest score. If you’re new to High Score this season and have Dončić, get used to this type of box score: 52 points, 8 rebounds, 10 assists and 2 steals. It’s Dončić’s show in Los Angeles and you should expect more of this the rest of the way.
Anthony Edwards: Ant came out of the gate hot, scoring 45 points with 10 rebounds, 3 assists and a combined 3 steals and blocks in his season opener. Edwards is off to a good start in his quest for a first scoring title, something Dan Titus threw out there in his bold predictions for this season. This Minnesota team should be fun all season with LaMelo Ball in town.
Nikola Jokić: Now here’s another familiar name and one you’ll likely read about often in this series throughout the season. The Nuggets’ big man turned in a performance we’re used to seeing — 35 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 stocks for the second-highest score of the week. Jokić should see this ceiling again in Week 2 with some winnable matchups against the Warriors, Pelicans and Suns.
Jalen Johnson: Last season’s breakout star in fantasy is off to a great start. Johnson posted 26 points, 9 rebounds and 16 assists with 2 steals against the Rockets over the weekend. The stat-stuffing forward will get that same matchup against Houston on Monday before facing the Heat, Cavaliers and Pelicans later in the week.
Jayson Tatum: Tatum bounced back against the defending champions on Friday, posting 36 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists with 3 steals in the victory. Expect more performances like this in Week 2 as Boston takes on the Bulls (twice), Nets and Magic.
Ty Jerome: Jerome took over as the starting point guard in place of Ja Morant, who was shipped to Portland. He was a trendy sleeper pick going into the season, and while it’s still early, he’s looking like a steal after dropping a career-high 45 points with 7 rebounds and 6 assists in the opener against Utah. He’s already looking like a league-winning player.
Jerome tied with two superstars — Giannis Antetokounmpo and Devin Booker. The Heat are off to an 0-3 start to the season, though Antetokounmpo will generally be solid in this High Score format. Booker’s 43 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists helped lift Phoenix to a win over the Warriors over the weekend.
