No. 2 Duke dominates Army, 84-50, in season-opening win

Jon Scheyer and the Duke Blue Devils tipped-off their 2026-27 season at Cameron Indoor Stadium Monday night, hosting Army. Like they did throughout the preseason, Duke dominated the opposition, dismantling Army and cruising to a 84-50 victory.

It was an all-around team effort for the Blue Devils, as all 12 Duke players to enter the game got on the score sheet.

Dame Sarr did the most often, finishing with a team-high 16 points on a perfect shooting night, going 5-for-5 from the field and 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Joaquim Boumtje-Boumtje impressed in his debut, scoring 15 points as a starter to go along with seven rebounds, one steal and three blocks.

Patrick Ngongba II was the third and final Duke player to finish in double figures, adding 10 points, seven rebounds, one steal and one block.

Based on the preseason and Monday night's game, Scheyer appears to be leaning toward an eight-man rotation, with eight players playing 19 minutes or more. Those were the five starters: Sarr, Boumtje-Boumtje, Ngongba II, John Blackwell and Cayden Boozer. Off the bench, Caleb Foster, Deron Rippey Jr. and Sebastian Wilkins reached that threshold, with Rippey Jr. leading all bench scorers (seven points).

Looking ahead, the Blue Devils will face Coastal Carolina at home Thursday.
