Paul Barclay joined the club in June after being appointed Chief Financial Officer. A statement announcing Barclay’s appointment said: “Paul brings decades of finance experience to the Football Club and will play a key role in supporting our development off the pitch.”
The experienced Chartered Management Accountant has a wealth of experience, most notably with the Infinite Group, but opted to walk away from Swindon in September, having only arrived in June, as revealed in the Advisory Board minutes.
Annabela Da Costa retained her position of Financial Controller despite Barclay’s arrival and will continue with her responsibilities on the financial side.
He is joined in departing by Sotiris Caldelis, who will return to Australia, as also confirmed in the September Advisory Board meeting.
Caldelis was the club’s Operations Manager, but a number of his responsibilities have been absorbed by Alisha Henry, who joined Swindon as club secretary in June 2025.
Henry also holds the title of Head of Operations, meaning the club already has a senior member of staff covering parts of Caldelis’s previous work.
The two departures add to a long list of staff departures among Swindon’s staff since September 2024.
Former Academy Directors Alex Pike and Mark Moss have left, along with Head of Football Jamie Russell and former Club Secretary Jamie White.
Former Football Operations Manager Baillie Coupland and former Hospitality Manager Rachel Burt have also departed.
Kirk McGinn, who was once Deputy Head of the Academy and head coach of the under-18s, is no longer with the club, whilst Ryan Elliott left as Youth Development Phase Lead in the last month.
Sean Wood and goalkeeping coach Travis Wood both left for Reading out of the Under-18s set-up. Former Head of Media Callum Knowles left after his role was made redundant this summer.
The latest changes come as Swindon continues to adjust its management structure away from the pitch. Whether or not they will be replaced directly is not yet known.
The club’s existing finance team includes Da Costa, who remains in her post.
Henry’s combined responsibilities mean operations work will continue within the club following Caldelis’s return to Australia.
Barclay’s appointment had been presented as part of the club’s plans for off-pitch development. His resignation means those plans will now be overseen without the Chief Financial Officer appointed in June.
