"A la suite des événements dans la région", le Dakar 2027, prévu du 1er au 15 janvier prochains, aura bien lieu mais ne se déroulera pas en Arabie saoudite, ont indiqué dimanche dans un communiqué les organisateurs.

"Le Dakar 2027 aura bien lieu. L’édition 2027 se déroulera sur un autre territoire et sera organisée par A.S.O", qui est déjà co-organisateur du Dakar avec la Saudi Motorsport Company (SMC), précise le communiqué. Le Dakar reviendra en Arabie saoudite en 2028 avec une édition historique pour les 50 ans de la compétition.

Le lieu du Dakar 2027 sera annoncé dans les prochains jours. En juillet, après plusieurs années d’accalmie, le conflit entre les Houthis du Yémen et l’Arabie saoudite a repris, avec des frappes quotidiennes touchant le royaume.

Le départ et l’arrivée devaient avoir lieu à King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), sur les bords de la mer Rouge. Depuis 2020, l’Arabie Saoudite a accueilli sept éditions consécutives de Dakar, avec des compétiteurs du monde entier sur des parcours qui ont mis en valeur la remarquable diversité géographique du Royaume, rappelle le communiqué officiel publié sur X.
