Michael Olise is better than Lamine Yamal, says Bayern chief amid Liverpool links

Uli Hoeneß says Michael Olise is already on his way to becoming the best player in the world ahead of Lamine Yamal.

Flipping linked with the Frenchman for several months now, despite spending £123 million on Bradley Barcola. The former PSG forward already has two goals and three assists for Liverpool, but Liverpool still need a replacement for Mohamed Salah.

Salah left Liverpool after nine years, but Liverpool are yet to replace him.

Olise is the best like-for-like transfer target to match Salah’s incredible career at Anfield. Yamal arguably has the higher ceiling, but Olise is more attainable given that he wants to leave and Barcelona are unlikely to ever sell Yamal unless things get ugly in Catalonia.

Hoeneß believes that Olise is the better player, and it’s easy to understand why, even if it’s not necessarily the truth.

This season, Olise has nine goals and five assists in 10 games. Yamal, however, has 10 goals and 10 assists in 12 games.

Liverpool, however, won’t care if Yamal is slightly better if they manage to bring Olise to Anfield in the summer.

Hoeneß said: “Michael Olise is well on his way to becoming the best player in the world. For me he’s better than Lamine Yamal.

“He scores goals, provides assists, is fast – practically the perfect player.”

Liverpool will need to break the bank to sign him, with reports indicating that the Reds would need to demolish their £125m transfer record paid for Alexander Isak in 2025.

Liverpool are reportedly in close contact with Olise’s agents for a transfer that would cost in the region of £52m.

That would be a truly sensational signing, although it would completely confirm the club’s departure from its previous ‘Moneyball’ transfer strategy.

Andoni Iraola already has a sensational attack, with Isak, Gakpo, Barcola, Ngumoha and Munoz all shining this season. Lewis Koumas has also been good, althoug he’s not quite in the same bracket as the others.

Then there’s the imminent return to training and action for Hugo Ekitike, who will not be content with a spot on the bench.

Very quickly, Liverpool have assembled one of the best attacks in the world, with Florian Wirtz behind them feeding them with his fine passing talent.
