Bashley piled further misery on relegation-threatened East Cowes Victoria AFC with a commanding 3-1 victory on the Isle of Wight, scoring three times in the opening 41 minutes to secure all three points on Saturday.

The visitors made a dream start when Joe Freak finished clinically after just two minutes, giving Bashley an early advantage and putting the hosts immediately on the back foot.

East Cowes responded through Harrison Yates, who restored parity, while a controversial disallowed goal for the home side added to the talking points, with the linesman reportedly indicating onside before the referee ruled it out.

Bashley regained control in the 38th minute when defender Stephen Walker made his presence felt at a set-piece, finding the net to put his side back in front.

And there was little time for East Cowes to recover before Harry Baker struck again three minutes later, continuing his impressive start to life in a Bashley shirt by doubling the lead ahead of the interval.

The two quickfire goals gave Bashley a firm grip on the contest, and they protected their advantage after the break to complete an important away win.

The result adds to the pressure on East Cowes, who remain threatened by relegation, while Bashley will take confidence from a productive afternoon on the island.

Bashley now have two home fixtures in quick succession, beginning with Cowes Sports at Bashley Community Stadium on Tuesday at 7.30pm, before Sherborne Town visit on Saturday at 3pm.
