Can The Cherries Make It Four Undefeated?

After our third game at home, including two games in the Europa League, the Cherries are on their travels again, this time up North to Old Trafford to play Manchester United. The game, which is being shown on Sky, is at 2 pm on Sunday. On our club’s last three visits, they remain unbeaten, drawing the last time.

Michael Carrick took over the role of Manchester United manager on the 17th January this year with his club in 7th place. His first game in charge couldn’t have been tougher; it was at home against local rivals Manchester City and his side won 2-0. Manchester United with Carrick in charge finished 3rd in the table in May.

They have not had a good start to this season, losing in the first game away to newly promoted Hull City 2-0. At home in their first game, United beat another newly promoted side, Ipswich Town 5-2. In their other two home games, they lost 0-1 to local rivals Manchester City and drew 1-1 with Spurs. Away, they have D 3 and L 1.

The last visit to Old Trafford was in December 2025 and the game turned out to be an exciting game to watch. First United took the lead, only for the Cherries to equalise and then the home side to go back in front again in first-half injury time. First-half scorers for United: Diallo, Casemiro. AFCB, Semenyo.

Immediately after the break, AFCB scored to make it 2-2. Then it was AFCB’s turn to go in front, but United came back to equalise and then go in front in a space of 2 minutes. That wasn’t the end, the Cherries equalised with 4 minutes of normal time to play. The scorers in the second half in this 8-goal thriller were United, Fernandes and Cunha for AFCB, Evanilson, Tavernier and Kroupi.

Bryan Mbeumo is the league’s leading scorer for them with 4 goals, and their captain Bruno Fernandes has 3 goals.

AFCB Team News
Junior Kroupi could be in the squad and probably on the bench. His goalscoring has been badly missed this season. Velijko Miloslavljsevic could also be in the squad. Alex Toth went off with a hamstring injury against AC Milan.

AFCB Player To Watch
Against AC Milan, a number of players had good games. But at the moment Evanilson is in very good form and also Marcus Tavernier who is also our leading scorer. Maybe we will get a chance to see Junior Kroupi some time during the game.

The Referee
Jarred Gillett is the man in the middle for this game. He has taken two of our games this season so far. Our other away game in Manchester against City and at home against Brentford.

It’s a weird situation. It feels like beating AFCB at OT might be the shock result to finally put United’s season back on track. Losing to us probably won’t get Carrick the sack either. I think they will be expecting a tough game and, barring something weird happening ( badge check on 96 minutes, anyone?), I don’t see them beating us on current form.
