Victory in Premier Sports Cup semi-final could have a snowball effect on rest of season

Owen Elding knows the importance of Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final and the snowball effect it can have on the rest of the 2026/27 campaign.

And he says he is ‘really enjoying’ his new role under new manager Manrik Reedijk.

Under the Dutchman, Elding has been deployed as the main focal point in attack, and he explained how the manager instructed him to mix up his role.

“We’re [feeling] very good,” said Elding in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“Everyone’s excited for the game, and it’s an unbelievable occasion for the Club, especially considering the opposition as well, and it doesn’t get any bigger than that, so we’re in a good place.

“I think we deserved three points on Wednesday night, but a late goal against us again.

“It’s just that game management again, and that’s all that’s missing at the minute.

“This moment has been a long time coming now, and hopefully we can go there and make the fans proud.

“I think, as a team, we’re just fully focused on the next game in front of us at the moment.

“That’s turning results around as quickly as we can, and we’re not looking any further than past Sunday at the moment.

“We’ve got a big backing from the fans on Sunday, so we want to go there and get the result that we need.

“I’ve just spoken to a few of the lads and people around the place about Hampden, and we’re expecting a really good atmosphere.

“It’s a big pitch as well, and I think it’ll suit us, so we’re really looking forward to it

“We know the passion that’s involved in the fixture, especially from our side.

“It’s a massive game, and I think we can feel the atmosphere on the pitch as well.

“We’re expecting a really good Hibs crowd, and hopefully that can feed onto the pitch.

“It’s been different, and I’ve changed my position lately, but it’s one I’m really, really enjoying, and I’m having different people around me as well at the moment.

“We’ve got unbelievable quality in the squad.

“Anyone can come in at any time, and we’ve got a really good mix of players.

“I think my role depends on what we come up against, and there are different roles in that.

“But I think we’re more aggressive without the ball, on the front foot, and taking the game to the opposition, so I think now it’s just about getting the final ball right and then getting the game management right at the other end.

“I think everyone’s adapting pretty quickly.

“In terms of me, we’re on the front foot, pressing, aggressive and winning the ball back high up the pitch.

“Ultimately, that means chances are going to come, so if we just keep sticking together and doing the right things, then I think it’ll click for us.

“I think everyone’s really coming to grips with what he’s expecting from us.

“There are definitely loads of positives to take from the games, and hopefully we can bring that into the weekend.

“Now we’re just looking to go to Hampden and give a good account of ourselves.”
