Exciting Northumberland prospect Matheos Ferreira has received a call-up to Brazil’s Under-20s squad ahead of the upcoming international break.
The 18-year-old winger - who was born in Ashington and raised in Berwick-upon-Tweed - is currently on the books at Newcastle United, and has been rewarded for his eye-catching recent progress as part of the Magpies’ academy system with a prestigious nod from the South American giants.
Having impressed for both the U18s and U21s on Tyneside over the past year or so, Ferreira made his first senior appearance in black and white during this summer’s preseason preparations. Since then, he has gone on to make a dozen appearances at Under-21s level this term, registering goals against first team opposition when Newcastle came up against Boreham Wood and York City in the National League Cup and EFL Trophy respectively.
The teenager, who also qualifies to play for England and Italy, will link up with Brazil’s youth set-up for friendlies against Japan and Singapore later this month.
