In the eyes of many, Lennox Lewis remains one of the greatest heavyweights to have ever laced up the gloves.
‘The Lion’ had a highly decorated professional career which culminated in him capturing the world heavyweight championship on three separate occasions.
He shared the ring with a number of elite level heavyweights at the peak of his powers, defeating the likes of Vitali Klitschko, Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield along the way.
His 1999 rematch win over Holyfield saw him become the undisputed heavyweight champion, defeating ‘The Real Deal’ via unanimous decision at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
In a feature with The Ring Magazine, Lewis spoke highly of former rival Hasim Rahman, as he claims ‘The Rock’ was the strongest opponent he faced during his glittering tenure.
“Rahman was very strong in the first fight and then he landed a lucky punch. People say that there’s no such thing as a lucky punch but it’s a punch thrown ‘one time.’ In the rematch he couldn’t get near me so I don’t know how strong he was that night.”
Rahman became the second man to defeat Lewis back in April of 2001, stopping ‘The Lion’ in the fifth round of their bout in South Africa to shock the world and capture the WBC and IBF world heavyweight titles.
Lewis would get his revenge shortly after however when he knocked Rahman out in the fourth round of their rematch in Las Vegas to avenge the defeat and reclaim his world heavyweight titles.
