Ian Evatt believes Blackpool’s fortunes will change for the better if they can eliminate mistakes from their game.
The Seasiders’ focus switches from League One to FA Cup this weekend, when they travel to Hornchurch on Saturday.
They do so after Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday, a result which leaves them 19th in League One.
Asked if it was a good thing that Blackpool’s attention now turns to knockout football, the head coach said: “I don’t know. As I said, we’ve had spells in games where we’ve actually played really well.
“First half against Mansfield (4-1 defeat) was excellent, it was the second half that was the issue.
“I think we’re close to doing something and creating something.
“We just need to stop giving goals away like we’ve done today, cut out those stupid mistakes and we’ll be fine.”
Sunday’s point at Hillsborough made it one league victory in nine for Evatt’s players as Jerry Yates’ goal rescued a draw.
Wednesday had led through Davis Keillor-Dunn before seeing Sil Swinkels sent off, though Evatt felt Blackpool might have also had a penalty from the resulting free-kick.
He added: “I think so but it’s hard enough getting one decision at places like this, getting two is very difficult.
“It looked like it was and then I thought there were some soft decisions that didn’t go our way after it.
“I thought the ref allowed them to slow the game down which, look, they’re trying to do, they’re entitled to do, but the way the game is now, the ref has to manage that better.
“The rules are different, the rules have changed and to see only four minutes go up is tough.
“As I said, before the game, I think we would have snatched your hands off with a point - just the context of the game is disappointing that it was only one.”
