Frank Lampard thought his Coventry City side deserved a point from a game he felt was decided by one bit of quality from Fulham.

The Sky Blues had less of the ball but were very much in the game against the Cottagers at the CBS Arena where they lacked a vital cutting edge at the top end of the pitch, managing just two efforts on target from 13 attempts on the visitors’ goal.

“We were competitive throughout and it’s a game you don’t want to lose. If it ends 0-0 I think we both say fair play,” said the City boss, assessing the 1-0 home defeat which came as the club’s sixth Premier League defeat of the season so far.

“Fulham are a good team, a good possession team. They’ve been creating a lot of chances, played through a lot and I think are among the top final third entries on this. I spoke about it before the game and you can see why, because they play well and have got good players.

“So they didn’t give us massive problems around our box but they found a moment of quality that we couldn’t find.

“We didn’t have any real zip at the top end of the pitch like we would want to get results here and so that’s disappointing.”

The decisive goal from a largely end-to-end encounter, albeit clear cut chances few and far between for both sides, came in the 80th minute when tricky forward Oscar Bobb jinked past Jack Rudoni in the box, to the right of the Coventry goal. Cutting onto his left foot, the Fulham player then lashed his shot across goalkeeper Carl Rushworth and into the inside of the far side netting to score.

Asked about his side’s lack of threat at the other end, Lampard said: “Yeah and sometimes it can happen. You know, this is this is the Premier League. They’re trying to stop you and if you want to find a bit more it’s not always there for you, so we have to keep pushing on that.”

The manager spread his arms in frustration when the referee waved away appeals for a late penalty for hand ball when Rudoni’s attempted centre came off Shea Charles, but asked whether he felt his side should have been awarded a spot kick, he said: “I haven’t seen it. I know the one you’re talking about. I wouldn’t want to comment on it because it was too far away.”
