Gary O’Neil is delighted with the early impact that Julio Enciso has made during his second spell as an Ipswich Town player.
Following a six-month loan spell at Portman Road in the first part of 2025, the Paraguayan playmaker rejoined the club on a permanent basis this summer from French side Strasbourg in a deal believed to be worth £26m.
And the 22-year-old has impressed, with two assists alongside his first goal of the campaign last time out against Nottingham Forest.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Hull City, O’Neil said: “He’s excellent. (Playing as a) number 10, he understands the role well, in and out of possession.
“His goals never bother me, really. It can be easy to judge attacking players on that, but he does so much good stuff.
“His chance creation stuff and his work for the team has been exceptional. So even without that goal last weekend, I’m really pleased with where he’s at. I think he’s had a fantastic start.
“He's helped push the team forward. But of course, if he can add those goals and those moments, especially the way he did it, created it himself with hard work, good quality to finish it off, so I’m really pleased with where he’s at.
“He’ll be big for us again tomorrow against a Hull defence that are resolute and tricky to break down. Having Julio in and around those sort of positions that we try and get him in could be key for us tomorrow.”
