Stéphan draws positives despite QPR's draw with Burnley

Largie Ramazani’s strike put the Clarets ahead in the first half, but Jonathan Varane’s third QPR goal got the Hoops level, before substitute Justin Obikwu spurned a late chance to win the game.

The draw dropped QPR to 11th, while Burnley remain marooned in the relegation zone with just one win so far this season.

Dropping points at home to a relegation-threatened side was a disappointing result but Stéphan saw plenty of encouragement in how his side acquitted themselves.

Stéphan said: “I'm frustrated with the result, not with the performance. I think we started very well and in the first 20-25 minutes we had enough chances to score a minimum one or two times.

"We conceded probably from the first shot they had during the game. They shot only four times, touched the ball only five times in our box. We had 20 shots and 45 ball touches in the opponents' box.

"We were very dominant and the minimum in the second half was to score and equalise, but I think we had enough big chances to win today. That's why it's a frustration based on the result, but not a frustration based on the collective performance."

Rangers enjoyed a topsy-turvy October with big home wins against Swansea and Derby cancelled out by heavy losses at Birmingham and Southampton.

But Tuesday’s match bucked the trend with a tight, low-scoring affair that saw the R's comfortably deal with the threat posed by a Burnley side heavy on Premier League experience, including England internationals Jamie Vardy and ex-Hoop Kyle Walker.

Stéphan said: “Playing against a team who were in the Premier League last season, it was important to start with the same desire and ambition. I saw this ambition today, but a team at the top of the table is able to score probably three or four times.

“We are a good mid-table [side] because of a lack of efficiency. We are going to improve that. In football, we know how it’s difficult to score. It’s one of the most difficult things to do and we have a lot of young strikers who we have to let improve.”
