Kobbie Mainoo has shared how Manchester United’s players turned the game around to secure a memorable victory over Roma.
Manchester United bounced back from 2-0 down to beat Roma 3-2 and win a first game since early September.
Bruno Fernandes began the comeback in the second half, with Matheus Cunha scoring two late goals to seal an unlikely win.
Let's talk Manchester United RELEGATION
Speaking at full-time, Kobbie Mainoo told Prime that head coach Michael Carrick gave the players some stern advice at the interval.
The midfielder explained: “We needed a bit of a kick. We were a bit reactionary.
“When we lost the ball, we weren’t reacting as quickly as we could have and the boss really drilled it into us that we need to be more active and take the game ourselves.”
Manchester United have been a team devoid of confidence in recent matches, and that showed during the first 20 minutes, with Roma going 2-0 up.
This victory gives the team a vital lift, and Mainoo hopes this is a sign of things to come. He said: “We know what we’re capable of. We know we’re a dangerous team and we know we can change a game whenever, it’s just it all coming together at the right time. It has tonight and hopefully we carry it on for the rest of the season.”
Speaking about the players in the dressing room at full-time, he added: “Everyone is buzzing. A big sigh of relief, we’ve needed this win for a while and hopefully we can carry it on.”
Mainoo has spent the past month on the sidelines with injury. This was his first start since the draw at home to Tottenham.
His return was vital, especially as Carlos Baleba appeared to pick up an injury at the start of the second half.
