‘Still Team Angel Reese Over Here,’ ‘Vindicated With Her Playoff Run and DPOY’ — Dream Supporters Refuse to Turn on Atlanta Star After Finals Letdown

Angel Reese struggled in the closing games of the WNBA Finals, and the Atlanta Dream’s Game 7 loss on Saturday to the Golden State Valkyries gave her critics more to talk about.

But Dream fans were not about to abandon ship, instead choosing to reinforce their backing of the star forward after the heartbreaking defeat.

Dream Faithful Stand Firmly Behind Angel Reese Despite Finals Loss

Stand-up comedian Kevin Fredericks was among the first to show his support after Atlanta’s 68-63 loss at Chase Center on Saturday night. “IT’S STILL TEAM ANGEL REESE OVER HERE!!!” he tweeted.

The three-time All-Star finished Game 7 with 8 points on 3-of-7 shooting, 12 rebounds and a team-high 4 turnovers. Jordin Canada and Allisha Gray scored 18 and 16 points, respectively, for the Dream.

Atlanta had led the series 2-1 before losing three of the final four games. The Dream also finished the regular season 30-14, matching the best record in franchise history, and topped the Eastern Conference standings.

Former Brooklyn Nets assistant coach Steve Jones Jr. had plenty to say about the team’s season.

“What a season from the Atlanta Dream; cannot say it enough. The growth from Angel Reese, the two-way effort and impact from Rhyne Howard, Allisha Gray, and Jordin Canada. Worked and put themselves in this position.”

The Dream’s run also brought individual recognition for Reese. On Oct. 1, she became the first player in franchise history to win the Kia Defensive Player of the Year award. She averaged 7.3 defensive rebounds per game, while Atlanta allowed a league-low 9.5 second-chance points per contest.

For Lakers Today analyst Raj C., the championship loss didn’t diminish what the 24-year-old had accomplished.

“Even with a loss, Angel Reese and supporters should feel entirely vindicated with her playoff run and DPOY. Absolute winning player,” he wrote.

The 6-foot-4 forward scored 65 points on 22-of-39 shooting through the first three Finals games. She delivered 30 points and 16 rebounds in Game 2 at Chase Center, helping Atlanta even the series.

Her shooting fell off afterward. She went 2-of-12 from the field with 6 turnovers in Game 4, beginning a four-game stretch in which she shot 12-of-45. She still reached double-digit rebounds in six of the seven Finals games.

Some supporters were already thinking about next season. One posted, “Angel Reese will be back. Mark my words.”

A reply to that tweet read, “We love u, Angel Reese, we behind you 100%.”

Another response came from someone who admitted he wasn’t much of a WNBA follower.

“I’m not an Angel Reese fan (not much of a WNBA fan), but there is zero denying her this season. If she gets a shot going. Best in the league.”

Reese joined Canada and Gray at the postgame press conference, where she reflected on her third season in the league.

“I always say: delayed, not denied. This is only Year 3,” she said, later adding, “I’m really proud of the year that I had.”

The three-time All-Star averaged 14.7 points and recorded four double-doubles in seven Finals games. She also made 6 of 16 attempts from beyond the arc, hitting at least one 3-pointer in each of Atlanta’s three victories.

Reese led the WNBA in rebounding in 2026 and earned Peak Performer honors. She became the first player in league history to collect 500 rebounds in a season and set the single-game record with 26 boards. She also established single-season marks for total rebounds, offensive rebounds, and double-doubles.
