Jalen Williams gave the Oklahoma City crowd two thumbs up as he was stretchered off the court Sunday night, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander could not bring himself to watch.

Williams went up for a dunk with about 1:15 left in the Thunder's 108-101 win over the Los Angeles Clippers and was fouled in mid-air. He came down awkwardly on his left leg. He was sandwiched between Derrick Jones Jr. and Kris Dunn, and Dunn was assessed a flagrant-1 on the play.

His left leg became trapped beneath his body upon landing, with the lower portion appearing to bend unnaturally. The incident follows a Donald Trump staffer being booed out of an NBA arena after appearing to throw a drink.

Medical personnel covered Williams' injured leg with towels and attended to him for several minutes while the arena fell silent. Spectators covered their faces, and his teammates appeared stunned.

Gilgeous-Alexander pulled his own jersey up over his face as Williams' leg was put in an air cast, and he later wiped tears from his eyes on the sideline. When Williams was wheeled off, the arena chanted "J-Dub," and he answered with the thumbs up.

Gilgeous-Alexander, a two-time reigning MVP who has played with Williams for five seasons, fought back emotion afterward. "I don't even know. I just feel bad for him, nothing more than that," he said. He added, "We just got to hold the fort down until he comes back."

Coach Mark Daigneault offered no medical update, announcing the team would convene for practice on Monday, emphasizing the importance of the players being together first. "That's tough on the guys," Daigneault said. "We're not doing great."

The injury adds to an already difficult stretch for Williams. He played a career-low 33 games last season due to a wrist injury and recurring hamstring strains, appeared in only five playoff games, and watched the Game 7 loss to San Antonio in the Western Conference finals from the bench.

He appeared to be in good health at the start of this season, averaging 16.5 points across the first two games, before finishing Sunday's game with eight points, five assists, and two steals in 32 minutes. The 25-year-old secured a five-year extension potentially worth up to $287 million, which kicked off this season.

Oklahoma City also lost guard Cason Wallace to left shoulder soreness at halftime and forward Jaylin Williams to an injury earlier in the game. The Thunder, currently 3-0, will host the Phoenix Suns on Monday at 7 p.m. in their first back-to-back of the season.
