Marc Warren is returning to the DP World Tour three years after losing his card following a battling final eight holes that secured joint-fifth place in the grand final of the second-tier HotelPlanner Tour.

The 45-year-old Scot, the oldest player in the field, started the week 20th in the Road to Mallorca rankings and needed to rise to the top 15 to qualify for the main tour next season.

He slipped to 22nd at the turn in Mallorca, Spain, but finished 13th overall after a back-nine fightback left him seven shots behind winner Julien Sale.

The Frenchman secured second place overall behind Hamish Brown, the Danish-born son of a former Scottish club professional, with English pair John Gough and Will Enefer in 10th and 12th respectively.

Warren, who has four wins on the main tour and a highest ranking of 48 in the world, told the Scotsman: "I had a look at the leaderboard and thought I needed that putt on 18.

"I had to make a birdie. There was no playing safe at that stage for me. I knew we had to make three on 18. That meant three good shots were required and that's what we got.

"To see it drop in was great and to see the smiles on the faces of family and friends makes it all worthwhile.

"We kind of said yesterday that there might be a point where you have to put the foot down a little bit."

Sale's four-stroke win means the 29-year-old steps up to the main tour for the first time, while Brown held on to second place to secure the season-long title.

The 27-year-old Brown, who qualified for the main tour for the first time in 2024, was born in Aalborg, with father Marcus having moved from Perthshire to Denmark to become a club professional in 1985.

Brown said: "It means a lot. It gives me a lot of confidence.

"I had a tough year last year on the DP World Tour, but I thought I wasn't too far away. It's just moments throughout a season that need to go your way and I'm not scared of it for next year.

"I'm quite looking forward to it because I know what it is now.

"It's been a proper grind again today. Ultimately, I couldn't win today thanks to a good Frenchman, who played extremely well."
