He’s barely settled into Manchester City, but Enzo Fernandez has made no secret of his next move.
Enzo Fernandez’s switch to Manchester City was pure madness from start to finish. Rumors had been simmering for weeks that the Argentine felt suffocated at Chelsea and wanted a proper crack at silverware, but getting a deal done was dragged out.
Weeks of talks finally snapped late in the window when City blinked first, splashing out an eye-watering £125 million package to get him over the line.
The Argentine has 11 appearances in all competitions this season, with one goal and one assist to his name.
Enzo Fernandez isn’t beating around the bush about his endgame. The midfielder made it dead clear that his heart never really left Buenos Aires, promising he’ll be back in the famous red sash before calling it a career, treating a return to boyhood giants River Plate as an absolute guarantee.
He said: “I want to return to River at some point, I’ve said it several times. I’m going to return, I’m sure. It’s something I really want!”

River Plate isn’t just where Enzo made his name, it’s in his blood. He came up through the academy, won a league title, and became an absolute fan favorite at the Monumental before his move to Europe.
Even at Chelsea he constantly brought up River. He never pretended otherwise, dropping hints in interviews and on social media that going back home was always the endgame, not just wishful thinking.
