Leyton Orient manager Richie Wellens believes Reading are the best team in League One at scoring from transitions as his side prepare for tonight's trip to the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
The O's arrive in Berkshire on the back of a 2-0 win at the weekend and having kept five clean sheets in their opening 10 league games, but Wellens is under no illusions about the challenge that awaits his side against a Reading team pushing at the top end of the table.
Speaking ahead of the fixture, the Orient boss singled out Reading's pace and directness in attack as the Royals' biggest weapon.
"It's a tough game, a good club and tough opposition," said Wellens.
"They've built up a really good squad, depth in the squad, quality, so it'll be a tough game.
"They're very counter-attacking, so they've got a lot of threats up top.
"I think they're the best in the league at goals from transitions at the moment."
Wellens believes Reading's willingness to leave attacking players like Kyreece Lisbie and at times Paddy Lane high up the pitch makes them particularly dangerous when possession changes hands.
"The wingers are quite happy to stay up and the front men are sharp and quick," he said.
"It poses a real danger if you're not good behind the ball and if you give the ball away in the wrong areas."
While wary of Reading's strengths, Wellens is pleased with the progress his own side are making after a summer of significant change.
A new-look defensive unit has helped Orient register five clean sheets already this season, something the manager views as a major positive given the amount of turnover at the back.
The O's signed former Brentford and Bundesliga right-back Fin Stevens, centre-half Joseph Olowu from Stockport County, Former Chelsea right-back Alfie Gilchrist on loan from West Brom in the summer to help revamp their defence.
Whilst academy graduate Phil Chinedu has been deployed across the back-line this season.
"We're nowhere near the finished article yet," he said.
"There's so much growth in this team, it's frightening.
"You look at five clean sheets in 10 with a totally new back four, a totally new back five and a new goalkeeper, it's actually really positive."
The Orient head coach has alternated between a back four and a back five this season and admits the latter system is helping to address some of the defensive issues his side encountered earlier in the campaign.
"I think at the moment we'll go with that," he said.
"It's not something that I'm looking at long-term. However, at the moment we're keeping clean sheets and picking up points, so I'm willing to go with it."
As for team news, Wellens reported no major injury concerns ahead of the trip to Reading.
Former QPR midfielder Isaac Hayden an exciting summer signing Jaze Kabia both trained after picking up minor issues, although the Orient manager admitted he may choose not to risk either player with another busy run of fixtures approaching.
"The recovery's been fine," he said.
"The only ones would be Isaac and Kabs.
"They both trained today. The question is whether we push them out again knowing there's another game around the corner, or whether we make a couple of changes."
