The visitors faced early pressure, with Hayden Lythgoe and Pat Banks making heavy tackles to hold off Fareham’s attack.

Ventnor briefly regained possession, but the hosts broke through to score their first try.

Despite determined defensive efforts from Lewy Morton and Cody Hayman, Fareham crossed the line twice more before half time, leaving Ventnor trailing 21-0.

Damien Marriott, Ventnor RFC coach, said: "Another tough defeat for us today against a very good Fareham Heathens side.

"Credit to them, they played some good rugby and deserved their result.

"The lads are working hard, and there’s no lack of effort or commitment.

"We just need to be better in key areas of our game and start turning that hard work into performances and results."

Ventnor started the second half with renewed energy.

Ben Westbrook’s pressure forced a knock-on, and Ed Blake’s tackle secured a turnover.

Ben Cooper made a crucial stop against three Fareham attackers, briefly halting their momentum, but the home side soon broke through to extend their lead.

Ventnor made changes in the pack, bringing on Fred Fairman and Tony Jacobson, who added fresh intensity to the defensive line.

Late in the match, Arran Robinson made strong progress, setting up Tom Branagh to break through and score Ventnor’s only try of the day.

Branagh was named AJ Wells Man of the Match for his efforts.

The Red Funnel Moment of the Match went to Dan and Hayden Lythgoe.

Ventnor now faces a break in the fixture list before returning to action on November 14, when they will host Havant III at Watcombe Bottom.

On the same day, Ventnor 2XV will travel to face the Midhant Marauders.
