Matthieu Pavon faces the task of overhauling a six-stroke deficit on Sunday at the VidantaWorld Mexico Open.

Andrew Novak leads Pavon by six in Mexico with 18 holes left to play, after he fired a scintillating 62 on day three.

Meanwhile, the Frenchman posted a round of 65 to lose ground to the American.

Both Novak and Pavon have their sights set on a second PGA Tour win, although the American’s only victory came in a team event alongside Ben Griffin at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Do you think Jackson Koivun is more likely to win his first major than Brooks Koepka is to win his sixth next year? 🤔

Novak and Pavon will undoubtedly be feeling the pressure on Sunday with a PGA Tour victory, and the two-year exemption that comes with that, in their grasp.

So, will there be a friendly atmosphere between the two players in the final group in Mexico on Sunday? Or will there be some tension present?

Pavon spoke with reporters on Saturday after shooting a third-round 65 at Vidanta Vallarta.

And the Frenchman was asked how he found playing alongside the notoriously fiery Novak.

“Yeah, that’s always nice to play with someone who plays good and even better, it just pushes you more and more to do great stuff,“ Pavon replied.

“Like, Andrew has been really impressive the last two days, I think 10 under and 9 under bogey-free twice. He’s a strong player. That was nice to share a round with him, and now it’s just like I have to focus on myself and try to do my best tomorrow.“

Pavon will obviously have to shoot a really low score on Sunday if he is to have any chance of winning the second PGA Tour title of his career.

If Novak goes out and shoots a round in the mid-60s on Sunday at the VidantaWorld Mexico Open, he will give Pavon no chance of overhauling the six-stroke deficit that he faces.
