Unbroken Fils beats Machac to set up Fritz rematch in Paris
Rolex Paris Masters 2026

Arthur Fils never faced a break point as the French sixth seed beat Czech player Tomas Machac 6-3, 7-6 (4) in 1 hour 29 minutes in the second round of the Paris Masters 1000 on Wednesday.

He will face American 11th seed Taylor Fritz, who beat qualifier Alex Molcan 6-7 (6), 7-5, 7-6 (5), in the third round.

Reaching the third round also equals his best result at this event, set in 2024.

Fils made his serve the platform for everything else. He broke in the second game and moved 3-0 ahead with a love hold. Machac saved three set points while serving at 2-5, but Fils served out the set to love at 5-3. Fils held all 11 of his service games and won 92% of his first-serve points (35 of 38). Machac made 33 unforced errors to 14 for Fils, and saved five of the six break points he faced.

Machac, ranked 69th, had beaten Kyrian Jacquet of France 7-6 (7), 6-1 to become the first Czech to win a main-draw match at this event since Tomas Berdych reached the 2016 quarter-finals. He had gone 0-5 against top-10 players in 2026 before Wednesday.
