Morrison welcomes expectation on Albion

James Morrison admits it will be hard to keep West Bromwich Albion under the radar in the Championship promotion race after their stunning win at West Ham United.

Saturday's 3-1 success at the London Stadium took Albion fourth, two points above the Hammers and just two points outside the automatic promotion places in a tightly congested field in which 10 points separate the sides in 1st and 14th.

Morrison guided the Baggies away from the threat of relegation to League One after being placed in interim charge in February after a season of turmoil before signing a permanent two-year deal in April.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the win over the Irons - which made it 10 points from their past four games and 13 from seven away games overall - Morrison said it had been a 'complete performance' but 'I'll try and quietly keep us under the radar.'

He said: "I want that excitement for the club again and the fans, especially with last season in mind.

"I welcome the expectation, we just have to try and tone it down in the best way. I think it might spur us on to keep performing like we do, we have set a standard we can't drop."

Albion salvaged a late 1-1 draw at Preston seven days earlier and Morrison said that came as a useful reminder of the importance of staying focused.

"The result at Preston highlights that," he said. "Everyone thought we'd turn up and win but it's not the case in this division, we can see how tough it is.

"I'm trying to drum it home to the lads that we need to keep working and let the fans be happy and have that belief and that excitement.

"I want the fans to be getting out of bed and being excited to come and watch West Brom again."

Morrison added: "I think it was a complete performance. Their goal came from a bit of Premier League quality. I was a bit disappointed to go in 1-1 because that was the only chance they had.

"To go again is probably why I am so pleased. I was so proud of them, how brave they were in and out of possession.

"This is a Premier League team coming down, we knew how hard it would be. I thought it was the best (day in the job), performance wise, I thought we had everything.

"That performance has been coming, I've been waiting for it."
