Duke moves closer to top 25 in latest US LBM Coaches Poll

With a 47-2 victory over Boston College on Saturday at Wallace Wade Stadium, Duke became bowl-eligible for the fifth straight season, a program record.

At 6-2, Manny Diaz’s squad is also gathering more and more votes in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, jumping up to just outside the top 25 with 76 votes in Sunday’s rankings.

The Blue Devils used a record-breaking game from running back Nate Sheppard, in which he rushed for five touchdowns, a single-game record for Duke, and scored his 18th total touchdown of the season, also a record. Duke’s defense was more than up to the task against Mason McKenzie and the Eagles’ offense, holding them to zero points, with Boston College’s two points coming on a return of a blocked extra-point attempt.

Duke spent two weeks in the top 25 of the Coaches Poll this season after starting 4-0, but fell out following back-to-back losses.
