Friday here in Vancouver saw some major updates regarding Filip Chytil’s status after getting hit by Darnell Nurse last night in San Jose. Hometown Remix jerseys are on the way in a few days, and Rick Dhaliwal from CHEK’s Donnie & Dhali had some updates regarding the much-needed practice facility, because, as it stands now, the Canucks are the only team without any plans in the works for one.
Chytil did not participate in today’s practice and is being evaluated for a re-aggravation of an upper-body injury. He suffered the injury early this season, falling into the boards after tripping over referee Riley Brace during a preseason game. This is yet another concerning injury for the 27-year-old, who has only played 85 games in the last five seasons combined.
Chytil had played an average of 19:53 per game this season, which surpassed his previous season’s average of 15:00 by a long shot. He also played a career-high of 22:13 against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday, which is telling of how much Head Coach Manny Malhotra has liked his play. On the flip side, center Marco Rossi only played 11:15 on Thursday. With Chytil’s injury, the other centers on the team will need to shoulder a few more minutes.
The NHL will be unveiling Hometown Remix jerseys for all 32 teams at 7:00 a.m. Pacific Time/ 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time on Monday, November 2nd. Leaks have been floating around via Jersey Nerds, but the Canucks were not one of the 20 teams on the leaked list. However, rumour has it that the Canucks Hometown Remix jersey may have a similar color to the Vancouver Whitecaps. The teaser shown last week pointed to a navy color, but we will find that out on Monday officially.
Rick Dhaliwal gave an update on both his show, Donnie & Dhali, and Halford & Brough, about the latest updates surrounding the Canucks. He gave some remarks on the latest trade rumors around Jake DeBrusk, stating that he would prefer a trade to a contending team, and that chatter around Elias Pettersson has been quiet from a trade perspective. The other major update Dhaliwal gave was around the much-awaited practice facility. Earlier this year, there were rumors about the Canucks closing in on a practice facility at East Vancouver’s Britannia Rink. The community has reportedly pushed back over the complexities of building an extra sheet of ice and how it would take away ice time from local minor league teams. The team is now looking to build a new facility in partnership with the city on land that is even closer to Rogers Arena than Britannia, according to Dhaliwal. It is worthy of note that the city has a new municipal government, who could have different ideas about partnering with the Canucks than the previous mayor and city councillors. Management has made it one of their top priorities, as they continue to look to foster a positive environment for the team.
