Aston Villa right-back Matty Cash is now one booking away from receiving a one-match suspension in the Premier League.
He collected his fourth yellow card of the league season on Saturday afternoon against Manchester City while defending against Jeremy Doku.
Cash was also booked in the opening-weekend defeat against Brighton, the win at Tottenham and the 2-2 draw against Brentford following the extended international break.
According to the FA’s disciplinary rules, any player who receives five bookings in their side’s first 19 Premier League matches of a season must serve a one-match suspension in the same competition.
Players who accumulate 10 yellow cards in Premier League matches up to and including their side’s 32nd fixture will serve a two-match suspension in the competition.
Premier League yellow cards are not carried over into the EFL Cup or FA Cup. However, red-card suspensions can apply across domestic cup competitions and the Premier League, depending on the circumstances.
Last season, Cash was suspended for the match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium after collecting his fifth yellow card in Villa’s 18th game of the season. He was booked nine times in total.
Elsewhere in the Villa squad, John McGinn, Alysson, Joao Gomes, Emi Buendia and Nicolas Jackson have each collected two yellow cards in the league so far this season. Ian Maatsen, Tyrone Mings, Brian Madjo and Johan Manzambi have all been booked once.
Villa host Fulham in the league on Saturday night, after travelling to Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
Unai Emery’s side will then travel to Barcelona in the Champions League next Tuesday before taking on Manchester United in the league ahead of the November international break.
