Ronald Araujo has once again addressed his Liverpool future as the promising start to his loan spell continues.
It's arguably been one of the biggest talking points of the season to date, as the Uruguay international has quickly established himself as a fan favorite at Anfield. He only joined Liverpool on loan from Barcelona in the summer, although there is a buy clause in the deal rumored to be worth just shy of £50 million ($67 million).
Araujo has made 13 appearances across all competitions so far for Liverpool this season. In that time, he has also scored two goals and registered one assist.
In almost every interview, the 27-year-old has been asked whether he will remain at the club beyond this season. He has consistently been quick to insist it's too early to know for sure what will happen, and his response ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash with Arsenal was no different, although he was quick to share his affection for the fans.
"Yes, I’m grateful for the love from people, very grateful," he said in an interview with Sky Sports this week. "Truly, thank you!
"There’s still a lot of time left, I can’t speak about the future if I don’t know what will happen when they make the decision because there’s a lot of months left. So I am trying to enjoy every day, give everything I can, continue working, continue growing, help the squad so we can win titles, because I strongly believe in the team.
"We have a great team with experienced players, young players and very talented players. So yeah, I have to keep working and we’ll see what will happen in the future, right now you just have to enjoy it."
Araujo initially made the move to Barcelona from his homeland of Uruguay in 2018. He broke through into the senior side in 2020 and has gone on to amass over 200 appearances for the La Liga giants.
However, his time in Spain had not been straightforward, and he eventually hit a breaking point last season that required him to step away from the game for personal reasons. He has since admitted the hiatus was 'the best decision' he could've made, as he's now back and enjoying his football again.
Of course, a fresh start at a club like Liverpool has played a role in his resurgence, but whether his loan spell will turn into a permanent switch remains to be seen. Although he was named captain at Barcelona, his struggles resulted in a loss of prominence at the club, but he has since rediscovered his form at Anfield.
Barcelona's current center back partnership under Hansi Flick is predominantly made up of Gerard Martin and Pau Cubarsi, with the latter still only 19 years of age. Barcelona currently leads the way at the top of La Liga, two points clear of Atletico Madrid in second.
