HARLOW rugby club picked up a fourth win in a row as they narrowly edged Finchley 12-7 on Saturday afternoon.
The Redmen made the journey to north west London to take on the newly promoted side who have made a decent enough start to life in Regional 2 Anglia winning 2 of their opening 4 games. However the Finch had lost 2 in row whilst Harlow had won 3 on the spin including 2 wins on the road.
The conditions were extremely tough as Storm Boelo continued to cause problems but Harlow managed to take the lead thanks to inside centre Casey Baldock with Liam Batty managing to beat the elements to slot the conversion.
Luke Bowering was sent to the sin bin for the visitors but Finchley still couldn’t find a way through and Harlow were able to cling onto their slender lead at half time.
Finchley were finally able to break down the Harlow defence in the second half to level the scores up at 7-7.
But Harlow weren’t willing to go back to Essex without the win and they were duly rewarded when scrum half Rob Macpherson-Smith scored a try. The visitors unable to add the conversion this time as conditions continued to play a part.
In the end it proved to be a real mud fight as the rain continued to pour in the capital. A special mention however to Rob Macpherson-Smith who despite the abysmal conditions nailed a sensational 90 metre clearing kick after a crucial Harlow turnover on their own try line.
Harlow would hold out to take home a 12-7 victory as they remain 4 points behind unbeaten Rochford in the league table.
There was also another win for Harlow 2’s who have now won 3 in a row after beating Barking 26-5 at a wet Latton Park.
Next up for the Redmen is a home clash against Wanstead on Saturday 31st October.
