Manchester United value skyrockets as Glazers consider sale

Manchester United’s value has soared despite mounting pressure on the Glazers, with fresh figures emerging.

Manchester United value skyrockets as Glazers consider sale

Manchester United supporters staged furious protests against the Glazers and INEOS during Tuesday’s extraordinary 3-2 Champions League comeback victory against AS Roma.

Thousands of green and gold balloons were released at Old Trafford, while tennis balls were thrown onto the pitch and chants demanded the owners leave.

The demonstration symbolised 21 years of frustration under the Glazer family, whose controversial leveraged takeover in 2005 burdened United with enormous debt.

According to the club’s latest financial accounts, United have £689 million in borrowings, having paid almost £39 million in interest during the previous financial year.

Despite spending billions on transfers, the Red Devils have not won the Premier League since 2013.

Meanwhile, the Glazers’ American football franchise, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, have celebrated two Super Bowl triumphs under their ownership, fuelling supporters’ frustration over United’s decline.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival in 2024 initially promised change, but INEOS have faced criticism over redundancies, ticket-price increases and repeated managerial upheaval.

United’s disastrous start to this season has only intensified the pressure.

On 4 June, Centre Devils reported that members of the Glazer family were considering selling their shares, potentially ending their controversial ownership.

Now, another significant financial development has emerged.

Glazers see Manchester United valuation soar

Speaking to Sky Sports, chief correspondent Kaveh Solhekol revealed that Manchester United’s share price has increased dramatically throughout 2026.

Solhekol reported an increase of approximately 35% since January, with shares rising from $15.94 to $22.07 at the time of his report.

Even more remarkably, United’s shares had increased by 7% over the previous month despite their disastrous performances.

The journalist explained that investors remain optimistic about United’s commercial future.

However, the longer-term picture is less impressive.

When Manchester United floated approximately 10% of the club on the New York Stock Exchange in August 2012, shares were initially priced at $14.

Fourteen years later, they had risen to approximately $22, representing relatively modest long-term growth.

Nevertheless, United recorded £677.6 million in revenue during the 2025/26 financial year, demonstrating their continuing commercial strength.

The rising share price could strengthen the Glazers’ financial position during any future sale discussions.
