The Seattle Seahawks ought to aggressively pursue a trade for Philadelphia Eagles superstar running back Saquon Barkley, whose explosive playmaking ability has the potential to transform their rushing attack and strengthen their postseason ambitions.
CBS Sports labeled the Seahawks as being a great landing spot for Barkley amid the series of woes that the Eagles are facing this season.
“They [Seattle] would have to pay a hefty price to pry Saquon Barkley away from Philadelphia because of his immense value and his giant cap hit, but with the Eagles poised to watch this season wither away in the wake of countless personnel losses, they should be willing to at least field calls on their superstar running back.”
Seattle needs a reliable difference-maker on the ground, and Barkley is just the guy to do so and elevate the team's championship hopes. Barkley has recorded 182 rushing yards on 36 carries this season, averaging 5.1 yards per attempt, but has yet to score a rushing touchdown on the year. While his numbers are down this season, he has rushed for 1,000 yards five times in his career, including last season with 1,140, and led the league in rushing yards in 2024 with 2,005, which exemplify his prowess as a ball-carrier.
As for Seattle, the Seahawks have registered 643 rushing yards on 165 attempts this season, averaging 3.9 yards per carry with five rushing touchdowns. Improving their ground game will provide greater balance offensively, ease pressure on Sam Darnold and the passing attack and help Seattle control games against playoff-caliber opponents. The Seahawks’ offense is predicated on the run, and after losing Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III in free agency last offseason, the team has yet to see the production that it saw from its unit last season in 2026, which makes a push for Barkley a sensible move for the team to entertain.
Barkley has championship pedigree after helping Philadelphia capture a Super Bowl victory at the end of the 2024 season. His experience in high-pressure games figures to offer Seattle an established star capable of changing its offensive identity. Whether Philadelphia will be willing to consider moving its centerpiece remains uncertain, though the team is 2-4 to begin the year and lost Jalen Hurts for the season due to injury, making a roster shakeup something that may take shape before the deadline. Nevertheless, Seattle stands to gain from exploring every opportunity to acquire an elite talent like Barkley and reshape its postseason outlook.
