Manchester United goalkeeper publicly snubbed by manager

Manchester United fans have been crying out for one normal day at the club, but fresh goalkeeping drama has once again made headlines.

Manchester United have significantly reshaped their goalkeeping department over the past two summers, signing Senne Lammens, Karl Darlow and young Welsh prospect Kit Margetson.

Lammens arrived from Royal Antwerp in September 2025, establishing himself as one of United’s most successful recent signings.

The Belgian enjoyed an outstanding debut campaign, making 32 Premier League appearances, registering 79 saves and keeping eight clean sheets.

His performances earned him the 2025/26 Premier League Transfer of the Season award, alongside widespread praise for his composure.

However, his second season has proven considerably more difficult.

United have conceded 15 goals in their opening nine league matches without keeping a single clean sheet.

Lammens attracted criticism following October’s humiliating 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth, particularly after rushing out of his goal and allowing Evanilson to score into an empty net.

The Belgian was also criticised for his positioning when Rayan beat him at his near post.

Roy Keane subsequently questioned his performances, suggesting the goalkeeper was costing United valuable points.

Despite Tuesday’s dramatic 3-2 Champions League victory against AS Roma, questions remain over United’s defensive stability.

Meanwhile, another goalkeeper connected to United is facing an increasingly uncertain future.

Speaking ahead of Thursday’s Europa League encounter against Union Saint-Gilloise, Celta Vigo manager Claudio Giraldez publicly addressed his treatment of Manchester United loanee Altay Bayindir.

According to Spanish outlet Metropolitano, Giraldez admitted: “Altay Bayindir hasn’t had opportunities because I haven’t given them to him.”

The manager explained that certain players had been overlooked because he preferred different profiles, while others required additional time to adapt.

Bayindir joined Celta on a season-long loan in August after losing his starting position to Lammens at Old Trafford.

The Turkish international famously helped United eliminate Arsenal from the FA Cup in January 2025, saving Martin Odegaard’s penalty before denying Kai Havertz in the shootout.

However, he has yet to make a competitive appearance for Celta, with Ionut Radu preferred in goal.

Earlier this week, Centre Devils reported that Celta could face a financial penalty due to Bayindir’s lack of playing time.

His manager’s latest admission raises further questions about whether that situation will change.
