Five players set to miss Bayern vs Arsenal as Mikel Arteta gets triple boost

Arsenal take on Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening as they look to keep their flawless streak in the Champions League in-tact, but a number of players will miss the clash

A combined total of five players will miss Arsenal's Champions League meeting with Bayern Munich, with Mikel Arteta dealing with a reduced attacking threat from the Bavarians.

The two teams are set to clash under the bright lights of Europe at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening at 8pm, each vying for greatness in the continent's most-prestigious football competition.

The Gunners have enjoyed the best-possible start to their UCL campaign, beating Napoli 1-0 in their opener before enjoying a 3-0 rout of Lille in their most-recent game. As a result, the north London outfit sit sit eighth in the league standings, but could claim the top spot with a convincing enough win.

That's because just three points and four goals in total separate Arteta's side from Paris Saint-Germain at present, with Les Parisiens achieving a 4-2 win over Barcelona on Tuesday night.

Vincent Kompany's Bavarians will, however, look to stop Arsenal in their tracks, as they too seek automatic qualification to the knockout stages and eventual glory in the tournament for the first time since 2020.

However, both head coaches will be forced to navigate compromised squads as a result of injury. William Saliba continues on the road to recovery following a flare-up regarding a back issue at the World Cup.

While he has since been involved in wider training at Colney, the Frenchman is not expected to be fit to return to the competitive sphere until December.

Christos Tzolis also misses out against Bayern as a result of a hamstring issue sustained while representing Greece in the Nations League earlier this month, while Piero Hincapie is still working his way back to fitness following an ankle problem he picked up in training.

In more positive news, Arteta has confirmed that Martin Zubimendi will be involved in Wednesday's fixture, having recovered from an ankle issue as a result of a 'freak accident' with Mikel Merino.

Speaking during Tuesday's press conference, Arteta explained: "Zubi is back with us, he will be involved with us."

As for Bayern, Kompany will be without Jamal Musiala as a result of a thigh issue, as well as Michael Olise who is currently serving a one-game suspension as a result of a red card against Viking a little over a week ago.

Having Zubimendi back and the absence of both of those men will be a major boost for Arteta, who will have a reduced attacking threat to worry about.

Joshua Kimmich was also absent from training on Tuesday as a result of a personal issue and is a doubt for the encounter, while Manuel Neuer is touch and go as a result of a problem with his foot.

Kompany himself, meanwhile, could also miss the match through illness, with assistant coach, Aaron Danks, taking Tuesday's press conference.
