Renato Moicano reveals MMA career coming to an end following UFC Halloween loss: ‘You have to realize when you’re done’

Renato Moicano doesn’t seem completely bothered by the egregious referee work that cost him his main event clash against Tom Nolan at UFC Halloween, but that’s probably because “Money” is almost done with mixed martial arts (MMA) as a whole.

In case you were too busy trick-or-treating, Moicano headlined UFC’s Halloween card this past weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was an interesting main event matchup with Nolan considering Moicano is a grappler and Nolan is a striker. As anticipated, Moicano exploited this early on by implementing his ground game to gain back control and take an early lead.

Unfortunately for Moicano, his advantageous position was taken away in Round 2 when the referee stood the fight up as “Money” was on Nolan’s back. Moicano wasn’t landing heavy offense, but he was one move away from a potential submission. A standup from that position is quite rare in MMA and has been a hot topic of discussion over the past few days, especially considering Moicano went on to lose by knockout the following round (watch HERE).

While Moicano has every right to be mad he’s already made peace with the outcome. It’s a bit surprising considering Moicano was winning the fight before the ill-advised standup, but “Money” isn’t sweating it. Maybe that’s because the long-time UFC lightweight contender is actually looking to move on from MMA after his current UFC contract expires. Instead of MMA, Moicano wants to make his money inside of the boxing ring.

Check it out below:

“To be completely honest with you, I want to finish my contract, and once I finish my contract, I don’t want to fight MMA anymore,” said Moicano during an interview with Ariel Helwani on Monday.

“I want to do boxing, like influencer boxing. I want to beat up people that don’t know how to fight.

“I don’t wanna be like Tony Ferguson. Eight fights, trying to be a champion, 40 years old, on a six-fight losing streak. I don’t want that.

“I’m happy. Sometimes you have to realize when you’re done. You have to realize how much gas you have left in the tank, how much love for the sport you have. For me, it’s these three more fights.

“I think after these 3 I’m done because [the UFC] is not gonna pay me enough.”
