New Zealand fast bowler Matt Fisher has replaced Blair Tickner as a concussion substitute during the second ODI against India in Wellington. Tickner suffered a blow to the helmet from Indian pacer Anshul Kamboj shortly before the hosts were bowled out for just 134 in 41 overs.

Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bowl on Saturday, November 7. India's fast bowlers troubled the hosts and picked up wickets at regular intervals after rain reduced the contest to 47 overs per side. Gurnoor Brar led the attack with career-best figures of 4/30.

Matt Fisher Replaces Blair Tickner as New Zealand's Concussion Substitute

Matt Fisher became New Zealand's first concussion substitute in men's ODIs after the medical staff approved Tickner's replacement. Both Tickner and Kyle Jamieson suffered blows to their helmets during the final stages of New Zealand's innings.

Kamboj struck Tickner on the side of his helmet before bowling him to end the innings. Earlier, Brar had hit Jamieson on the helmet during his impressive spell.

New Zealand had also been bowled out for 185 in the series opener in Auckland. Their total of 134 in Wellington marked the first time since January-February 2001 that the team had scored fewer than 200 in consecutive ODIs in a bilateral series. They had last suffered a similar run against Sri Lanka.

India's bowlers dominated the innings, with Auqib Nabi providing the first breakthrough by dismissing Tim Seifert for a duck. Nabi then removed Will Young after finding the outside edge of his bat.

Anshul Kamboj struck in his first over, bowling Henry Nicholls for 11. Brar followed with a double-wicket maiden, dismissing Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips in the same over to put New Zealand under further pressure.

Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner offered some resistance with a 59-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Mitchell scored 55 off 104 deliveries, while Santner contributed 33. However, Axar Patel dismissed Mitchell when he attempted an aggressive shot, and Brar later removed Santner.

New Zealand lost their final three wickets for just eight runs and were bowled out for 134. Brar finished with 4/30, while Kamboj, Nabi and Axar claimed two wickets each. India needed 135 runs from 47 overs to win the match.

'As Long a Rope as Possible' - Ian Bishop Praises Gurnoor Brar

Former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop praised Brar for his performance against New Zealand. Bishop also urged teams to show patience with emerging fast bowlers rather than judging them on limited performances.

"Days like these that remind us how bowlers come into their own in white ball cricket when there is a bit of help in the pitch; and why it’s important to give fast bowlers like Gurnoor Brar as long a rope as possible to find out if they can be the player you’re looking for."
