Arsenal are getting busy with preparations ahead of the January transfer window as they eye up a marquee star wanted by Tottenham.

Among their many potential January targets, the Gunners are reportedly seriously keen on Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi, but while the red-hot striker is doing his bit to catch the eye, getting Brugge to let him go is another matter.

The Belgian club are reluctant to sell, while Sky Sports Germany has reported that people around the player consider a January departure unlikely.

Arsenal already know their way around negotiations with Brugge after signing Christos Tzolis in the summer, and that connection may be useful, but it hardly guarantees another deal.

Over in Spain, Alex Baena has also been linked with a switch to the Emirates.

Arsenal are said to admire the Atletico Madrid attacker, whose ability to play out wide or behind the striker gives Mikel Arteta several possibilities.

Diego Simeone's club are expected to resist any winter approach, with Baena tied down until 2030, leaving Atletico in a strong position to decide when, or whether, to listen.

Julian Alvarez is another familiar name who keeps cropping up, although the latest update offers little encouragement there either.

According to TEAMtalk, Atletico have told Arsenal that Alvarez will be staying through January despite continued contact between the Gunners and his representatives.

That leaves Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta facing a familiar transfer headache.

Tuesday's Carabao Cup embarrassment at Fleetwood has hardly quietened the debate about Arsenal's attack. Viktor Gyokeres equalised in a 1-1 draw, but the Gunners still went out on penalties against League Two opposition.

Havertz also started, leaving Arteta with an awkward result to explain despite fielding both senior striking options.

Arsenal need any addition to make a difference, and paying a premium in January brings its own pressure.

Now, Eli Junior Kroupi has come back into the conversation.

Arsenal want a clearer picture of the Bournemouth forward after his injury layoff, with TEAMtalk's Graeme Bailey reporting an enquiry from the Gunners into his fitness and situation.

The enquiry gives a fresh indication of their interest before January, with Man United also asking questions and Tottenham still keen.

Kroupi, 20, returned as a late substitute during Bournemouth's 3-0 win at Old Trafford on Sunday after surgery on a fractured metatarsal in July.

He scored 13 Premier League goals last season, showing he could seriously trouble defences in England while still a teenager, and for Arsenal, that experience would make him an intriguing option.

Bournemouth, though, have plans of their own.

Getting Kroupi back among the goals is the priority, and Bailey reports that a January sale of the £80m forward is firmly off the agenda.

Alex Scott could yet leave during the winter window, making Bournemouth even more determined to avoid losing several key players at once.

Asking about Kroupi makes sense, especially after his injury layoff, but convincing Bournemouth to sacrifice his goals halfway through the season promises to be a much tougher conversation.
