Bruno Fernandes has endured another miserable week as Manchester United’s disastrous start to the season continues to spiral out of control.
The Portuguese midfielder captained Michael Carrick’s side during Wednesday’s humiliating 4-1 Champions League defeat against Como, extending their winless run to seven matches.
Nico Paz scored twice as the Italian side dismantled United, with Joshua Zirkzee’s late consolation doing little to disguise another embarrassing performance.
Fernandes subsequently publicly questioned Carrick’s tactical approach, suggesting the team should have pressed more aggressively instead of allowing Como to dominate possession.
His comments sparked further controversy, with Carrick responding that players must run and work hard regardless of the tactical system.
United’s captain has frequently carried the responsibility of leading the club through difficult periods, but Wednesday’s defeat represented another painful setback.
However, an even more distressing incident reportedly unfolded away from the pitch while Fernandes was representing United in Italy.
According to The Sun, three masked intruders burgled Fernandes’ £4 million Cheshire mansion at approximately 8:30 pm on Wednesday evening.
The suspects allegedly entered the six-bedroom property in Nether Alderley through its rear garden, stealing designer jewellery and other expensive possessions.
A neighbour alerted police after spotting three unknown men outside the property, but the suspects had disappeared before officers arrived.
It remains unclear whether Fernandes’ wife, Ana Pinho, and their two children were home during the burglary.
Despite sophisticated security measures, including CCTV, electric gates and an alarm system, the intruders reportedly gained access through woodland behind the house.
Fernandes’ luxury vehicles were left untouched.
Cheshire Police confirmed that several items had been stolen and launched an investigation into the incident.
Detective Inspector David Jarvis appealed for witnesses, with officers reviewing CCTV footage from neighbouring properties.
The Sun reports that Fernandes and his wife have been left devastated by the ordeal.
