Yaxel Lendeborg surprises his mother with a California home as fans praise the Warriors rookie’s gesture.

Golden State Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg surprised his mother, Yissel Raposo, with a new house in a video he released Friday, drawing warm reactions from fans.

Raposo has been at the center of Lendeborg’s basketball story since his high school days, long before he reached the NBA. The surprise also marked the first episode of a new video series he plans to produce during his first NBA season.

Fans Celebrate Yaxel Lendeborg’s Tearful House Reveal for His Mom

The video opens with Raposo arriving at the California home under a cover story from relatives, unaware of why she is there. Once her son welcomes her home, she realizes what he has done, drops her head, and begins to cry.

Lendeborg then hands her the keys and takes her through the house before calling two of his younger sisters to show them what he bought.

Warriors and Golden State Valkyries beat reporter Kenzo Fukuda reacted to the moment, writing, “This is awesome.”

Sports radio host Damon Bruce added, “Yaxel making his Mama proud. Love it.”

Fans responded in much the same way.

“This is literally incredible. God bless Yaxel and his wonderful family. I know the background he comes from very well, this brought tears to my eyes. This is the feeling that he brings with him to the court every day. You can’t help but cheer for him and want to see him win,” one fan wrote.

Another replied, “This is what life is about.”

“Every man’s dream,” a viewer remarked.

One more fan put it plainly: “Buying your mom a house is the biggest flex.”

The first-year forward said the search for the home took two to three months, with one of his sisters helping him find it. Raposo is moving to California from New Jersey, where her son grew up.

In the video’s description, Lendeborg thanked his mother for the sacrifices she made for him.

“There is no gesture big enough to properly say thank you for all the love, sacrifice, and support my mom has poured into me but this moment was pretty special and one I’ll never forget,” he wrote. “She deserves it all. For me, it’s bigger than basketball. It’s about making sure the people who believed in me get to enjoy the blessings too.”

He also posted, “Lifelong goal has finally been accomplished. Blessed!”

That history with his mother stretches back well before his NBA career. In 2019, during his senior year of high school, Raposo told him, “There’s no more time to mess around,” as he worked through 10 community college courses in one year to earn his diploma.

The former Michigan standout detailed that period in a February Players’ Tribune essay titled “How My Mom Saved My Life.” He wrote that his mother got him into a basketball camp near New York for Dominican players, where he gained exposure to college coaches.

When an opportunity at Arizona Western followed, Raposo pushed him toward it. He later moved on to UAB and Michigan, where he helped the Wolverines win a national title.

His mother was also there when Golden State drafted him.

“She was saying we did it,” Lendeborg said of that moment. “All the sacrifice that we made, we finally accomplished it.”

The rookie entered Saturday’s home game against the Orlando Magic averaging 21.0 points and 7.1 rebounds through nine NBA games, with both marks ranking second in his draft class.
