King's Lynn Town beat Hereford 3-0 after big Worksop loss

Aaron Jones savoured his first goal since returning to the Linnets – but insists there must be no let-up.

Lynn headed to Hereford with their tails between their legs after a 5-0 midweek mauling at Worksop, but responded in perfect style against a team that started the day second in the table - and formerly managed by Linnets boss Paul Caddis.

The satisfaction of the three-point haul was lost on no one, but Jones has been around long enough to know that straight and level is the way to go, rather than the inconsistency which plagues National League North at times.

Two early goals within three minutes of each other from Kwame Thomas, one from the spot, had set Lynn on the way before Jones struck on 65 minutes, leaving Lynn to manage the final third of the game.

“We knew we needed a reaction after the performance on Tuesday night,” Jones told official club channels.

“Quite a few travelling fans made their way to Worksop and we knew as a group that wasn't good enough, so to do that today against these, obviously been going really well in the league, especially everything it meant to the gaffer and to the staff is a Really good feeling.

“And we have just got to keep kicking on now, keep kicking on.”

Jones was grateful to Ross Crane in front of him on the right flank as he and fellow full-back Jahmari Lindsay followed Caddis’ instructions.

“We spoke a little bit in the week about full-backs joining in a little bit more, but still having the defence being solid and protecting against counters, but getting forward,” he said.

“So me and Jammer tried to join in a little bit more. And I thought Craney today, in front of me, was unreal. He gave their left back a real tough time.

“I saw him get the ball and the space sort of opened up inside, so I darted inside and then swung the left foot at it and thankfully it's gone in. The boys have given me some stick in there.

“That was a good feeling, but especially pleased for the manager because I think there were some words that some of their fans were giving him. So, buzzing for him.”

If there was any noticeable revengeful satisfaction from Caddis – sacked by Hereford in March – then it was reserved for off-camera.

“Absolutely delighted,” he said. “Buzzing for the players. This is a real, real tough place to come. They haven't conceded a lot of goals. I think we felet comfortable in the game, to be honest.

“We wanted to come and try and silence the crowd. We know that there's an expectation here that can sometimes be a bit false. And we knew that we had to try and control that.”
