Out-of-contract former Manchester United and England winger Jadon Sancho has reportedly been offered to an English Football League (EFL) club after previously being offered a deal by La Liga’s Getafe.
Sancho has been without a club since his Man United deal expired at the end of June. The former England star, despite being under contract at United, spent the last two and a half seasons out on loan at Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa, helping the latter win the Europa League last term.
Despite his positive contribution to Unai Emery’s side, the Midlands club decided against signing the 26-year-old permanently, leaving him without a club or contract.
It was reported that La Liga side Getafe had tabled an offer worth around £10,000 per week for Sancho, who earned £300,000 per week during his time at United, although he is thought to be seeking alternatives.
On Tuesday (October 26), talkSPORT reported that Championship side West Ham United had been offered Sancho’s services, with the 26-year-old’s representatives also contacting other English clubs as they search for a suitor for their client.
West Ham are currently third in the Championship after 12 matches, having been relegated from the Premier League last term.
West Ham supporters have offered their take on the club potentially signing Sancho via social media, and it’s fair to say the fanbase is divided.
One said: “I’d take a go at him if he accepts our wages. It’s good to have back-up options everywhere for this season.”
Another added: “If this is true, which I find hard to believe, and we don’t get him in, we are not serious about going straight back up. There is no way on earth he would not improve us.”
A third claimed: “Get him and sell Solomon. He could also play down the middle. We saw what we did with Lingard; we can do the same with Sancho. Also, he never had attitude problems at Villa. He and Bowen as our wingers in the Championship would be incredible.”
A fourth commented: “Don’t know how to feel about this. If we were in the Premier League, I’d say no, but I don’t know. It could be a Lingard-type situation, coming to us in the Championship.”
A fifth explained: “Bringing a bad attitude to a team that already has a bad attitude, with a manager who has a bad attitude… we’ve sunk low.”
A sixth wrote: “Would defo take him. It’s a long season with a lot of games, and he’d be good back-up if there are any injuries.”
West Ham’s Championship campaign resumes at home against West Bromwich Albion on October 31.
