Matt Hamshaw oversaw what is expected to be his final game in charge of Sheffield Wednesday after replacing interim boss Henrik Pedersen last week.

Dave Challinor is the man chosen to take the Owls forward this season. The former Stockport County man was in the stands at Hillsborough as Wednesday drew 1-1 with Blackpool.

It’s the second draw this week for the Owls, with Hamshaw overseeing another 1-1 draw after the midweek share of the spoils with Cambridge United.

After the game, the hot topic of conversation was centred around Challinor arriving in Sheffield, and Hamshaw believes Wednesday will be in safe hands.

The former Owls player will have wanted to win games as the interim manager, but crucially, he hasn’t overseen a defeat during his two games in charge of the club.

He believes that Wednesday will be in very good hands when Challinor has been given some time to implement his ideas across to the players, stating that he thinks exciting times will be ahead.

He told the Yorkshire Post: “Dave’s a really good bloke. He’s a good manager. He’s proven. And he’s going to enjoy it. He’s coming into a club that I think can achieve amazing things through his ownership.

“He’s going to need a bit of time. It’s not going to be a quick fix, but it’s going to be exciting times for the club. He’s won a lot of games over the years, so tactically he’s very good.

“Stockport played good football, tenacious, they won battles. He understands the opposition, he’s diligent.”

Challinor is officially expected to take charge of things from tomorrow, and he will hope to start overseeing wins to get Wednesday into a position where they can challenge for the play-offs this season.

It won’t be easy for things to instantly change for the Owls. However, the squad is there, and fans will now look forward to a new era in which Wednesday will hope to be back playing Championship football.
