Bruno Fernandes held a separate interview following his damning remarks on Michael Carrick's tactics during Manchester United's 4-1 win over Como - and his comments are arguably more even brutal.
Fernandes questioned United's pressing style after they were humiliated by Cesc Fabregas' side, adding that it was 'on the manager and on the staff to see it, not on me'. Carrick would ultimately be asked about those remarks in his post-match press conference, stating: "If you don't run, and you don't run forward, and you don't run back, you aren't going to win."
But elsewhere, the United captain spoke to Sky Sports Italia following his original remarks - and took aim at his club's focus on the past as well as the present.
Fernandes claims that, at present, United are focused too much on 'what's been done in the past', and said both the club themselves and the players need to take their share of the blame.
"At this club, there's too much focus on what's been done in the past, but we're not those people anymore," he said.
"The club and the players need to understand that. Unfortunately for us, especially when it comes to the players, those who join expect to win trophies, win games, and reach the highest level, but unfortunately, that's been very difficult at this club in recent years. That's the situation."
On his substitution, which saw him react with apparent disappointment to being taken off by Carrick in the second half, he said: "Nobody likes to leave the pitch, especially with a result like that.
"It was a very difficult match for us. It was almost impossible to play with the ball, we weren't close enough to maintain possession and play in their half. Como were very brave in their man-to-man pressing, we never did that and we gave them too many opportunities to play between our lines, thus managing to create chances to score."
Manchester United's next decision will be whether Carrick, who was appointed as permanent head coach towards the end of last season following an interim spell, will continue to take charge of the club.
According to talkSPORT, former Germany and Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has been 'sounded out' by INEOS in case they decide to make a change, while ex-Newcastle boss Eddie Howe and Antonio Conte have all been linked with potentially taking over.
But United will also need to decide about how to deal with clear differences between some members of the squad and the hierarchy. After Lisandro Martinez's explosive comments following the 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid, in which he publicly criticised technical director Jason Wilcox, Fernandes has taken matters a step further with his comments.
The Guardian report that Carrick's future is 'in the balance' after United's fourth defeat in seven matches, with the other three of those results all being draws. They might have to make a swift decision.
