The Los Angeles Rams will be without one of their top cornerbacks for the rest of the season. Sean McVay told reporters on Wednesday that Jaylen Watson needs surgery on his injured shoulder and will miss the remainder of the 2026 season.
Watson originally dislocated his shoulder in Week 3, but he's managed to play all but one game since. He has exited multiple games after aggravating the injury, most recently in Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
McVay said earlier this week that he hoped Watson could continue to play while wearing a brace on his shoulder, but it turns out he needs surgery.
The Rams signed Watson to a three-year, $51 million in free agency this past offseason. That signing came shortly after the team acquired his teammate in Kansas City, Trent McDuffie, in a blockbuster trade. Watson and McDuffie won two Super Bowls with the Chiefs and remained teammates with the Rams.
In seven games this season, Watson had one interception, 24 tackles and nine passes defensed. He will once again be replaced by Josh Wallace in the starting lineup, with Emmanuel Forbes Jr. also playing a bigger role at cornerback.
